I'm probly going sorc for my next life, and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on which savant is best. I've been trying to look at what spells are available for each element, and also to factor in enemy resistances at low/mid/high/epic levels. Another factor I haven't really considered yet is gear- whether one element or another has better or more available gear than others.

I'm thinking Earth (acid) has best chance of bypassing most enemy resists, but Fire seems to have the most spells. I've heard that Air (lightning) may have the best DOT spell, and Water (ice) i really havent seen too much that would make me want it.

Obviously, i'm planning to focus on one, w/ a few points spent in a non-opposing element for backup.

A common build for a fire savant is to pull in some fvs for the fire based angel of vengeance enhancements.

As for best. I dunno. I did mine as an air savant. As a first life under geared sorc my DCs were lousy as soon as I moved over to forgotten realm quests.

It's been a long time since I've played a sorc but from what I remember...

Air savant is nice because knockdown immunity and the CC you get from electric loop SLA along with its damage. No matter what you pick you'll run into enemies immune or highly resistant to the element of your school of choice. So make sure you progress up a 2nd tree somewhat.

I like water as well. Niac cold ray for 2sp does a lot of damage but has an all or nothing save for damage and it is a conjuration spell and most often you go evocation focused on sorc.

Fire (wall of fire great damage over time is nice with web sitting in the middle but other fire spells will break the web) and acid (acid blast is pretty awesome) are also real nice. They all have their pluses and minuses. I've switched enhancements for certain chains.

For low level gear I could craft whatever you need. I also have many element of element lore one handed items for most elements at most levels tucked away somewhere.

The cannith challenge gear is nice. Cloak of flames (fire), bracers of wind (air), rock boots (earth), frozen tunic (water). Real nice having spell power not on weapons if you want to do some melee or go with a shield for the prr. Skyvault shield is nice tower shield with no ASF. You can actually get heavy armor and tower shield with no ASF and have some really nice PRR.

The way I have built my sorcs is usually with a focus on fire savant and secondary backup in electric.

The main fire spells I use are scorching ray because it has no save, fire ball because it's massive damage to multiple targets at once, and fire wall because it's great to kill a bunch of mobs over time with only using the sp to cast it about once.

The main electric spells I use include electric ball for the same reasons as fire ball, but it has a higher DC because of being a higher level spell and provides another element in case mobs are immune to fire. I also use the electric DOT on bosses, because it gets some pretty good damage when the enemy survives long enough to stack it a few times. I'm also sure there are other good electric spells, but those are the ones I use most, personally.

Fire is some of the best damage at lower and mid levels, and higher levels if they aren't immune, I think. When you get to areas with a lot of devils, it might not be a bad idea to focus more on the electric though. I usually end up almost to the top tier on both fire and electric. I actually take the top exclusive tier in electric, because it actually gives fire power, a feather fall toggle, and otherwise about the same stuff that all savants give. I take the capstone, minimum level 20 enhancement in fire though.

Anyway, that's just how I make my sorcs. I hope it is of any use to you for your sorc. :-)

Thanks for the input, guys! It was very helpful. In the end, i chose to focus on earth savant (acid) because i havent really played it yet. I have an alt who is an air savant, and i didnt want fire or cold as my primary because it seems to me too many monsters are either one or the other at high/epic levels (fire salamanders in the UD and ice ele's, eg.)
I will definitely be playing either an alt or a future life as fire and water savants, tho, cuz i still havent focused on either one yet.

Hi, folks! It's very interesting to discuss this topic over here! Just remember that there are a lot of topics left untouched. The school of the future is one of them - kindly read this post: http://livecustomwriting.com/blog/how-will-school-of-the-future-look-like
